I visited the museum with my partner, and we were both moved by what we read and saw. Rarely has a museum given such a detailed commentary on a country\'s darkest days. Infussed with humour and raw fact, no trip to Prague would be complete without a visit as it gives a true flavour of how life was in contrast to the modern day Prague, and how far it has come in a relatively short space of time.

The cinema experience of the Velvet Revolution was particularly moving and humbling.

I last visited Pargue in 2005 and my visit to the Museum of Communism was very informative and thought provoking. The brief historical documentary in the cinema left me in tears and made me realise how lucky I am to have grown up in Britain.

The visit in the muesum has been really interesting, especially because it\\\\\\\'s the only thing about communism I\\\\\\\'ve found in Praga (maybe czech people want to forget). Firstly, to see and experience this Museum fully, you would need to get there for opening time. When I visited there 2008/01/02 the Museum was packed to capacity and it was extremely difficult to move round.

Having visited Prague in the 1980\'s, I did not see people sleeping rough, begging or eating out of garbage cans. Only time will tell if the Czech people will not lament the passing of an age when life was secure and predictable, if not a little dull.

Having experienced the chaos and \'freedom\' of Wenceslas Square on New Year\'s Eve and the eyesore this once-beautiful Square has become, now that Global Capitalism has implanted itself in the form of the uber-ubiquitous McDonald\'s, Debenhams, M&S and a plethora of other multinational enterprises, I\'m wondering now if people there are really \"loving it\" after all?

My answer: Yes, I do.
The ugly shopping centres are really not my love, but experience from 25 years living behind the barbed wire was a bit worst.
The museum really can’t express all details of EVERYDAY LIFE in socialism.
Please, can you imagine situation, that in Prague, the capital of CS Socialist Republic were a couple of weeks no toilet paper for sale anywhere? I’m talking about not 50’s, but mid 80’s. O.k., you can use old newspaper. But there were as well no sanitary tissues for women. There’s difficult help with old newspapers.
What others were luxury for a young man in his 20’s? Ketchoup. Bananas, oranges. Absolutely no acces to modern music from abroad. Travel possibilities only to Eastern Block (after very humiliating bureaurocratic procedures).
No, really, thanks. Such experience NO MORE, please.
During 80’s I talked with a couple western tourists in Prague (a bit danger activity). Some of them said –What a great life without any billboards, ugly advertisement everywhere. You have a more quieter life than in the West.
Yes, but nobody answered me, why he can’t to move in Communist Czechoslovakia to enjoy such life here. I haven’t ever heard about only one such case. But I experienced dozen of thousands people trying (succesfully or not) to escape from such paradise.

Niekedy by bolo treba pozriet si Prahu spred 89 roku - tie sive osarpane budovy, ked vsetko bolo spolocne, nic nemalo svojho pana. I\'ve been there on 26.06.08. It\'s a good museum. I grew up in post-Soviet Russia so many of these things are new to me, but to older people from my country they are familiar. Some made me smile (like Russian language at school or Soviet-style songs on the radio), and some are just really sad. Life was hard, dangerous and not free both in CR and USSR, so I\'m glad that era is over.
I\'m a bit disappointed that information plates at the museum are in six languages not including Russian. Perhaps it\'s the only museum in Prague without a single word in my language. I think that must be fixed.

I was not much impressed by the distorted views presented in your musuem\\\'s little book \\\'Legacy\\\'.

Your complaints against \\\'communism\\\' (Stalinism) are based on a romanticisation and over-estimation of life in western Europe. Here are some examples. You say rationing was continued in CZ until 1954? It continued in Britain until 1951, and that was with Marshall Aid! And no colour TV in CZ until 1973. You poor dears! We in the rich UK could get it from ... 1969. And indeed, during the 1950s, TV sets even in Britain were a \\\'luxury item\\\', I\\\'m afraid to say. My mother got one in \\\'53, and the whole street came round to watch it.

So you were forced to learn Russian at school. That\\\'s no bad thing. Better than being allowed to get by without learning a language, like many in the UK. Incidentally, when I was at school, I had to pray to a God I didn\\\'t believe in several times a week, and sing hymns of praise to him. I think you\\\'ll find that ideological interference exists in most schooling systems, not just Stalinist ones.

I\\\'m genuinely sorry to hear about your troubles with the Stalinist police, political control and censorship. However your remarks about Czechs needing a Pinochet (p24, Legacy) sickened my stomach. I have no time at all for supporters of police and military dictatorship, and I wonder about your opinions on this matter. You had your \\\'Pinochet\\\' in CZ from 1938, and a visit to a local synagogue lists 77,000 dead and missing - no doubt just a proportion of this \\\'saviour\\\'s\\\' bloody deeds. Incidentally, those killed by communism - by your record, 278, many of whom were ambitious politicians and apparachiks not afraid to spill blood themsleves.

Please don\\\'t dismiss the advantages of \\\'Goulash\\\' politics. Yes, today the rich career politicians can make their self-interested, hate filled little speeches without fear of arrest. They eat well but the poor, who never make speeches under any system get less Goulash. Also in connection with \\\'Goulash communism\\\' I was surprised to read about volume of car ownership in CZ during the seventies - one in three families owning a car, just like in the UK! Lets be honest, three are worse problems in life than owning a Skoda, unless you are a complete snob. 1,000,000 new affordable flats built! That really is impressive. Only the privileged, who have no need of a flat of their own could sneer at this achievement.

The only positive thing I can think to say about your museum is that I like your current logo, showing the Matruska with fangs.

Maybe you think I have illusions in Stalinism and that I want to crush you with a tank. Not true. I\\\'ve met many Eastern Europeans, with a much more balanced attitude to the past, albeit mainly Russians and Germans. Yes the period 1948-1991 may not be remembered as the greatest in Czech history, but personally I\\\'m a fan of Goulash, new flats and full employment. Political idiocy, managerial incompetence and corruption did not stop with the collapse of Stalinism. Look at the gang who are currently ruling the world.

I visited the museum during my stay in Prague on 2/12/2008. I was impressed..., however in the end I missed the name and picture of Alexander Dubcek! His name is mentioned only in the little booklet on the table near the workshop. This is not according the reality of the Prague Spring in 1968: this man deserves a statue reaching out to socalism with a human face. The video in the TV room was absolutely impressive: I saw back the pictures as I had seen them when I was a young man of 18.

Hello. I just moved to the Miami area. I am looking for a solid company to help me with a refinance. I purchased the house from a short sale and had to do business over the phone because I was living in Az. I dont think that I got a good deal. My interest rate in now 6.99 percent. Hello. My wife and I bought our house about 6 months ago. It was a foreclosure and we were able to get a great deal on it. We also took advantage of the 8K tax credit so that definitely helped. We did an extensive remodeling job and now I want to refinance to cut the term to a 20 or 15 year loan. Does anyone know any good sites for mortgage information? Thanks!
